Grant Hyatt Wins Telegraphs' Travel Photo Competition

Grant Hyatt who features on the Tir-A-Môr Gallery with several stunning images has now added another accolade to his name.

Grant has just been announced the winner of the Telegraph Travel Image Competition with his image shot in the Brecon Beacons South Wales.

"I often like to put myself in the frame of a photo when out photographing landscapes, as for me it is not just about capturing the beauty of the place you are in, but also trying to capture the feelings and emotions that certain places can evoke in us.

With that in mind and the hill fog starting to break I set my camera up on the tripod and focused a little further into the scene than my intended seat and set the timer. The clouds, wind and mountains did the rest!

Settings used - ISO 11 Manual Mode F11 1/50th Second, Filters Used - Circular Polariser and 2 stop graduated grey.

"This is my first competition win and so I am over the moon! When I received the email telling me I had won (a mere 29 mins after entering) I had to ask if they were joking!"

Well done Grant!!!

March 2015 - Llyn Y Fan Fach & The Welsh Legend

Record High Tides Make For Some Unique Images

At the end of February Penarth in South Wales saw a record high tide.

Several Photographers were at the Penarth Pier early on a cold Sunday morning to capture this unique site.

Feb 2015 - Photographers Brave The Winter Storms

South Wales Photographers were out in force at Porthcawl braving the elements of strong winds and record tides to capture the dramatic wave action as the sea battered Porthcawl Lighthouse.

See our Porthcawl Gallery for more images.

Landscape Photographer Cheryl Hamer Featured On Tir-A-Môr

Tir-A-Mor was delighted when Landscape Photographer Cheryl Hamer accepted the invitation to feature on the Wales Gallery.

Cheryl is a Freelance Photographer based in Anglesey whose main passion is photographing the wonderful Welsh landscape.

“To me photography is about much more than simply 'taking' a picture of something that looks photogenic! I love being out in the landscape soaking up the atmosphere of a location. For me it's where I 'connect' with something 'bigger' than myself and my day to day life. I guess there's a spiritual element to it and it feeds my soul. I strive to communicate that special atmosphere and ‘feel’ in my images.”

Cheryl runs photography workshops and holidays in Anglesey and Snowdonia and from time to time across Europe and the rest of the world. Alongside her own photography, teaching is another great passion – “I just love seeing people light up when they ‘get it’ or create something wonderful.”

Cheryl is currently writing a series of monthly articles for Landscape Photography Magazine and has been published in several other photography magazines in the past and is a member of the ‘Landscapes by Women’ organisation.

More details on the Workshops offered by Cheryl can be found at: www.cherylhamer.com

Look out for the "Behind The Lens" interview with Cheryl towards the end of March

Jan 2015 - Nigel Forster Featured on Tir-A-Môr Gallery

Tir-A-Mor Gallery was delighted that Nigel accepted the invitation to feature.

Nigel has a strong reputation as a Landscape Photographer and also offers some excellent Landscape workshops on our doorstep.

"Although my photography comes mainly from Wales and from a cross section of places elsewhere in the UK and the world, where and how they were taken is secondary to the visual result of my work. My speciality is to take pictures of familiar places and people in imaginative ways, using natural light and the strengths of the camera to best effect. Like most photographers looking to make a living out of their passion, I am often torn between photography as art and the process of taking pictures of places that people know and recognise because they are more likely to buy them. Hopefully my work strikes the right balance between the two"

A new we page has been created to give information on Landscape Workshops and Photography courses.

The new page is listed under the INFO tab in the menu and its aim is to build a directory of workshops, courses and Photography holidays in Wales, Nationally, Europe and Internationally.
